Three Things Thursday: November 3, 2016

breakWelcome to this, the very first post here on my shiny new blog, Ms. Emily’s Home for Full-Grown Nerds! It seems so very fitting that my first post be from one of very most favorite (and longest running) series from my other blog, Nerd in the Brain. (If you’ve arrived here via Nerd in the Brain, welcome, welcome, welcome! I’m so happy to have you here! And if you’re checking out Nerd in the Brain for the first time now, please note that it will be going through some hefty changes in the next few weeks…it will be transitioning back into a blog all about STEAM fun.)

Now, I know everyone is new to this blog…because, well, even I’m new to this blog. But some of you may be new to Three Things Thursday, so I’ll give you a quick explanation of what it’s all about.

Three Things Thursday is a simple concept that everyone is encouraged to play along with. All it requires is listing three (or more!) things that are making your life awesome. Please note! The three things you choose each week do not need to be big, huge, mighty, impressive things. In fact, I think it’s much better to focus on smaller, sillier things…because focusing on those little bits of joy and the gigglesnorts that they bring…well, that’s where day-to-day contentment lives, I believe.

So, how do you participate? Easy as falling off a log! Whip up a blog post about three things that are making you smile…then share it on the link up in this post. Don’t want to do a whole blog post? Feel free to post some pictures on Facebook or Instagram! If you tag me in your pictures, I 100% promise to give them appropriate love. ❤

Just one more thing before we get this party started! Three Things Thursday posts actually don’t need to be done on Thursdays! I leave the link up active for the whole week every week…so you can be grateful on your own schedule. 🙂

Okay, here we goooooo…

If you’re new here, you have no way of knowing (until now!) that I’m a stepmom to a fantastic teenager…a teenager who happens to go to art school because she’s a wonderfully talented musician. Well, that art school also has an amazing theater department, and we try to catch as many of their performances as we can. Last week we had a chance to watch them perform Agnes of God and another play that the students wrote themselves, Boal. It is just stunning to see how talented they are! Boal was so incredibly good that it won awards at the regional theater competition and will be moving on to the state competition. Fingers crossed for a well-deserved win!

Grace (she’s the fantastic teenager that I mentioned above) had the opportunity to go to a Masquerade Ball this past weekend, and that Masquerade Ball just happened to be her friend’s sixteenth birthday party. 🙂 Her friend adores cute and strange earrings, so I hunted down some cuties that fit the bill. The only problem? The earrings came on woefully cheap hooks. Well, I just happen to be the proud owner of some jewelry making supplies (including some actual silver earring hooks), so I snagged the earrings and brought them home for a little surgery. After replacing the hooks with something that wouldn’t make the poor girls ears rot off, I decided some thin wooden gift tags would be the perfect way to display them inside of their wrapping. 🙂 (I apologize for this super fuzz-tastic picture…I was in a bit of a hurry and, apparently, in some sort of a cave based on the lighting.) 😉

Thanksgiving decorations!!! As much as I love Halloween, I love Thanksgiving even more! I was so excited to get started on my Thanksgiving decorations. (I was also really happy that I finally got all of my Halloween decorations organized and stored in a way that will make life easier for years to come…but that’s another story.) 😉

Those kids are just awesome! Good luck to them with the State competition.
I think your new blog looks great, and it should be easier to keep the clear focus of the two separate. May there be many more exciting blog posts in your future 🙂

I love those earrings, especially the gumball machines. We just bought a massive pack of blank Shrinky Dink pages, which I shall use to pimp out my children to make charms and ornaments for Xmas presents. It will be awesome.

    1. My last day on the job was Thursday. Woohoo! No more phone and no more craziness putting my license at risk.

    2. I got a job offer on Wednesday that is more than I have ever made in my life. Accepting it for now. But I don’t like the idea of having a phone to go along with it. It is paralyzing in what I want to do with my life.

    3. At the cabin in the woods for the weekend. It’s pure heaven here!

Ms. Emily, I love your new blog! Even though I missed the “official” grand Thursday, it still feels shiny and spiffy. I laughed out loud at your comment about cave lighting. I thought we were the only ones in that cave. Now I’ll start looking for you, arms straight out like a zombie (just in case there are dinos lurking around).
