Hello and welcome to another coffee date here at Ms. Emily’s Home for Full-Grown Nerds! The dinosaurs are 100% ready for a nice chat about what’s going on in your world…they (and I) want to know what’s new with you. Any awesome projects or accomplishments (big or small) or adventures going on in your life? Tell us all about them!

As for things around here, well, they’ve been just as nutty as usual. 🙂 (It is our way….apparently.) We had a crazy week with school stuff…not so much of all the things we had to do, but because of schedule wackiness. Grace was out of school Tuesday and Friday (Election Day and Veterans Day), and she managed to miss Monday and Wednesday because of being sick. (She’s all better now!) The only day she went to school, Thursday, was for a field trip, so she wasn’t actually at school. Needless to say, there’s going to be a nice round of “catch up” being played around here next week. Fun! 😉

All of the “volunteer drama” from last week has been tidily taken care of. Grace and I are back on Tuesdays for taking care of the kitties! That makes me super happy…I was a little concerned that we were going to have to give up volunteering with the floofs just because of scheduling, but all is well with that now. We did intentionally give up the Tuesday during the week of Thanksgiving though. We determined that there’s no reason at all that we can’t volunteer on Thanksgiving Day, and we knew that would be a tough day for getting people in there, so we’ve signed up for Thanksgiving Thursday. And now I’m pondering taking a bit of turkey to the fluffybutts. 🙂

Grace and I were asked to do another sort of volunteering next week, and we’re really looking forward to it! The local symphony and jazz band are having a 50s Jazz Night, and they’ve asked us to help with greeting and taking donations and things. Grace and I have decided that this definitely calls for fluffy, 50s-style dresses, so I’m combining some thrift store shopping and crafty skills to make that happen. 😀

Add in an awesomely long coffee date I have planned with my BFF, more time with the kitties, the beginning of our adventures with Girl Scouts (more on that later), PTSO fun, Relay for Life plans, and about a billion other projects and plans, and I have a seriously busy week ahead! (Absolutely shocking, no?) 😉

Let’s see…what else is going on in my world? Oh yes…this blog. I’m hoping to really get this party moving in the next week. I have tons of plans and ideas…I just need to implement them.

And that leads me to a question I have for you!

Excuse me for not being humble for a moment, but one thing I’m really good at is keeping a home clean and organized and running smoothly. I’m thinking of starting an email program where I would send out daily and/or weekly reminders/tips/ideas/schedules for keeping home a happy place. I realize that not everyone has hours and hours to devote to cleaning and cooking and organizing and things, so the emails would have more of a focus on getting things done in 30 minutes or so.

So, I’m wondering how many people would be interested in such a thing…and that brings us to a poll! I do love a good poll! 🙂

Let me know your thoughts!break

And, of course, there’s another big thing on my mind. The same thing that’s on all of America’s minds. The election…and its results. I honestly try to steer clear of sharing my political thoughts on my blogs and social media (I find that the only two results seem to be “preaching to the choir” and “fueling the argument fire,” so it feels like an exercise in futility…though I totally understand why other people feel differently.)

Well, I’m not going to go into politics now either, but I will say that this blog (and all of my social media) are safe spaces for all kind people. Your religion, sexuality, gender, race, political party, etc. are all welcome and loved here…as long as you are kind. No one in my little corner  of the internet will be bullied, abused, or in any way treated as “less than.”

As for my actions outside of my bit of the internet? Well, that’s something I’m still pondering. I’m trying to steer clear of a lot of social media right now…mostly because I need some space to form my own thoughts without having things yelped at me from every side and angle. I recently joined the NAACP, and I think the ACLU may be my next step. As I’ve mentioned before though, I feel like the most important thing I can do on the day-to-day is do my part in raising a child who has love in her heart and equality in her mind…and to have a home that is full to the top with safety, love, and warmth for all of our friends and family.

Promote love, stand up to injustice, reject hate…that’s as far as I’ve gotten.

break

I’m going to leave you on that rather uncharacteristically serious note, but I do truly hope that you…

…have a week that is full to the top with love and hugs and gigglesnorts and adventure and contentment and peace! ❤

You have a way with words: fluffybutts! Love it! I know a few other (younger) kids who had virtually no school this past week. I’m sure you remember how hard that is on the Old Mo (momentum, that is). I am intrigued by your help for organizing. If I could spend 30 minutes a day doing that, our house would look fabulous. In a decade. Send it on!

Like you I have been staying away from social media and news outlet. All are welcome on my blog. I turned to a book to get away from it. The book is about hate and prostitution. I put it aside for awhile. An event occurred here in Boise that brought home what is happening and shocked me. It occurred were I grew up and is very near here where I live now .Two Boise police officers and a K-9 officer were shot. Probably all will survive. The shoter is dead and it is probably not connected withe election.
    I AM PRAYING FOR PEACE!

OMG I love it! Home for Full Grown Nerds! LOL I have not posted my thoughts on the election, I agree with you – either preaching to the choir or fueling the argument fire. I followed, researched and voted. I will now continue to pray.

So glad that scheduling worked out for volunteering with the fluffy butts! It has been an emotional week and I have also tried to steer clear of social media. So much toxicity. I wholeheartedly agree that focusing on raising our children to love and be kind is the best thing we can do right now.

I love the sound of your email, particularly if it focused on how to be more organised. I’m not hugely into cleaning and all of that but I struggle with routine, getting stuff sorted out. I am working on it but it all goes counter to my creative, spontaneous side, which keeps reinforcing itself. At the same time, I know that I’d get further ahead with my writing through being more disciplined.
    Keep me posted.
